The Sisters of Origin Weekend in 2006 - Founding Group
In March, 2006, a group of women got an email from Sister Margaret to create a tradition originally conceived by Henrietta when she was capturing memories for her family book history project a few years ago. With the energy of Gina, Henrietta, and others, the word went out to the women of origin in the Victoria Halbleib and Margaret Rourke lineage: A celebration of women was afoot. Who's a sister of origin?  Someone over 40. So the Grande Dames met and the rest is either history... or not yet to be told.

Sister Margaret arranged for a "cabin" at Milford Lake, west of Junction City owned by the order.  It just looks like a convent.
It wasn't a "real" convent.

Women of Wisdom:
The first generation:
Sister Margaret Rourke, Lucille Rourke Nemechek, Eileen Rourke Nemechek

No, Mary Lou, they're doing 1st generation pictures now. You belong in the over 40 group.
Mothers and their Daughters

Lucille Nemechek and her Women of Wisdom:
Margaret Morgan, Mary Lou Harding, Gina McFall, Lucille, Barbie Winston, Henrietta Glatter, and Monica Jefferson?

Eileen Nemechek and her "daughter". Poor Eileen, she just had a bunch of boys and no girls so she came with her first "daughter", daughter-in-law, Jan Nemechek

Gina Nemechek McFall and her mother, Sister Margaret Rourke.  Gina: "She's my other mother.  But who's my daddy?
Anyone know who's my daddy?"
The Age Groups of the Second Generation
louise and kathleen and marie (next yr)

jennie and laurita and maxine (next yr)

We're the oldest and most mature of the wise women double cousins: Margaret Morgan, Jennie Mills, and Kathleen Kazmaier

Poor Mary Lou. She was born and had to play with a bunch of boy double cousins.
L to R: Kathleen Kazmaier, Margaret Morgan, Jennie Mills, and Mary Lou Harding

We're the next wise women double cousins, The older ones may be more mature,
but we're faster!
Gina McFall and Louise Seltman

The Little Girls:  Barbie Winston, Henrietta Glatter, Laurita Burbach, and Monica ?? Jefferson??? But Monica, you look like the back of Kathleen! We missed you.
The Sisters go to work (and play) the first evening and review the family tree, the stories,
Gina's photo album, and they get the whole thing all straightened out!
In the tradition of the "Ya-Ya Sisterhood", The Sisterhood of Origin honor the maternal line of our feminine ancestors: Crescenzia Thum, Crescentzia Emmerling, Victoria Halbleib, Margaret Rourke and our mothers. We celebrate and honor their wisdom, courage, love, and what they gave us. May we do the same for our daughters and their daughters.

Crafts?  We have to do crafts? We have to make what?  Crowns?  Oh, yeah, crowns for the ceremony to celebrate.

Who has the sticky glue? Any ribbons? I haven't done crafts in 40 years. Where's that glittery paint drawing stuff?

If I stick this on my crown will it still look like a Shriner hat? I can't get mine to stay on? Do we have to bring these every year?

Wow, Jan and Kathleen! (Princess Dovie and Madame Flutter), "Those are works of art" say Laurita and Gina (Mother Earth Hawk
and Empress Gigi)

Back (L to R) Lady Essence of Fire, Simply Saline, Princess Grace; Front (L to R)
Empress Gigi, Lady Dancing Swan,
Duchess of Burning Embers

Do we really have to have cabbage again? Everyone brought cabbage.
(Boy, I hope our Separators work. )
The Ya Ya Sisterhood Ceremonies

Pearl of Great Prize,
Countess Leni,
Lady Dancing Swan

Do you think we look like Shriners?

The gracious and wise Grande Dames are awarded the porcelain eggs of the sisterhood
by Mother Earth Hawk.

The sisters are recipients of the flexible eggs, the gooey ones. (We are still a work in progress after all.) LtoR: Mother Earth Hawk, Countess Leni, Lady of Patience, Duchess of Burning Embers, Empress Gigi, Simply Saline, and Goddess of Walkabout Dreamtime (front)

Madame Flutter,
Goddess of Walkabout Dreamtime,
and Simply Saline
Margaret is either meditating or simply can't bear to watch these crowns bobbing and swaying in the wind.

Hey, Louise (Lady of Patience), we cut Margaret Simply Saline off when you were laughing.  She was smiling great here.
We're still the oldest and most mature ??
(You know, we're the next 3 in line.)

And the Sisters go home to return on:
